Senior Citizens Week: Rotary Honors Senior Workers

Rotary Club of Pago Pago participated in Senior Citizens Week again this year. Director of the Territorial Administation on Aging (TAOA) Evelyn Lili'o-Satele invited the club to present two awards at a special recognition ceremony held May 24th at the TAOA campus.

Rotary Club of Pago Pago's Secretary Jackie Hall was there to present an award on behalf of the club. Honored were the two most senior members of the Senior Community Service Employmentt Program, a job training program aimed at preparing seniors to reenter the workforce. This year's recipients are Samuelu Milo who is currently assigned to the Election Office as an advisor and Tepatasi Maota who is currently assigned to Tula Elementary School as a teacher's aide.

Recipients of the Service Awards
Tepatasi Maota and Samuelu Milo are honored for their service.

In her remarks during the awards presentation, Jackie said:

This is an event that our Rotary Club has been involved in for many years. We are involved in many local community projects. We help the Hope House, we donate to Shriners, we present dictionaries to every 3rd grade student yearly, we built the swimming pool. We are Rotary. Today’s presentation is particularly special, though, because we are here in recognition of the senior community service employment program; those who have served, retired and have re-entered the workforce of today. We thank you for your service to your families, for your service to your village, your government and country, and to your church. Malo lava.

Senior Citizens week is an annual celebration in American Samoa. Held in the month on May, recognition is given to senior citizens who have, in one way or another, contributed significantly to the betterment of our community.
