Samoana High School Interact Club's Special Education Service Day

The Samoana High School Interact Club organized a special service day for their school’s Special Education students on April 6th. The day consisted of fun activities as well as helping the students with their class work and homework.

Rotary Club of Pago Pago’s Chair for Youth Projects Joey Cummings spoke with Samoana’s Interact Student Advisor Vaiala Lealofi after the successful project.

“Our Interact Club consists of exceptional young people and they wanted a project to engage the other group of exceptional youngsters at our school in the Special Education classes. We had a meeting with the head of the SPED teachers at Samoana High School and explained that we wanted to spend time with the students and assist them with their seatwork, homework, or other needs. We were warmly encouraged to proceed. We received authorization and planned a full agenda of activities including Zumba, dancing and guessing games with them. Jasmine and Nathan (NHS volunteers) helped with Fa'a, Shuling (volunteer) assisted with Eseta and Poto. Antonia and I assisted with OJ. It was a lot of fun.”

“Most importantly,” Lealofi said, “at the end of our date, we just chilled with them.”

Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs in American Samoa are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pago Pago.
